morning," i'm lisa robinson. >> and i'm deborah weiner. first let's take a look outside with john collins. >> apparently a good weekend for stink bugs. i was out in the garden yesterday, and there were many of them. let's get with the program this morning. it is warm this morning. temperatures in the mid 70's this morning. but there is relief in sight. take a look at our live h.d. doppler radar. we could use some rain. what you are seeing out there isn't going to fix that. it is an indication that a cool front is moving into the area. so there are a few sprinkles. that's about it. i don't know if this stuff hits the ground. nonetheless, culling in behind that, there is a cool front. that will pass through during the day today. it will help knock temperatures down. instead of 90's today, we're

going to talk about 80's today behind the front, and eventually we'll take the humidity down, as well. at the moment, the skies are clear and there is -- we'll talk about the forecast for this weekend, because there are changes coming up. >> our big story this morning, a first of its kind court decision. a former howard county teachers aid is found guilty of sex abuse. >> it is not aled he touched the vism but he did send the third grader explicit letters. >> the verdict against carl walker junior comes six months after police found out about the letters. walker started writing explicit and passionate love letters to a student in september of last year. >> he talked about how much he loved her, how he was jealous when she had a boyfriend, how he dreampt of taking her to las vegas.

>> walker was a teacher's assistant at the school. her mother found several letters at home. the guilty verdict against walker today sets a precedent because there is no evidence of physical contact in this case. a child sex abuse case in a case with no physical con duct -- for force >> there is an exploitation element, and there is an element that he was in a position of authority. >> the statute applied carries of the burden of proving exploitation. walker clearly exploited the 8-year-old victim even though there was no physical con duct. walker could be sentenced to 25 years in prison. >> this is encouragement to people who may have experienced this same type of thing and didn't think it was a crime. perhaps they will come forward. >> kai reed, wbal-tv 11 news.

>> a defrocked catholic priest agreed to a plea deal to resolve charges he sexually abused a boy. >> the alleged boy said he was abused in 1976. the arch diocese of baltimore previously removed the priest. >> in ann arundel county police, police are looking for a man wearing a bright orange vest. they say around noon thursday he ropped a sandy spring bank in millersville. he reportedly also passed the teller a vote and got the cash

and took off. >> another week of testimony wrapped up in the murder trial of former city councilman ken harris. yesterday jurors listen to debate. barry simpson covering the trial. he has the latest from the court house. >> prosecutors are trying to show the connection. they think evidence collected in the police investigation of the baltimore city murder of ken harris and the robbery of the new haven lounge. forensics say they collected sam samples from a number of items and collected blood from skin cells and submitted pieces of evidence. he said he examined the halloween mask winds to the shooting and the robbery of the lounge testified. the mask was found near an alley where the jazz club is located.

he noticed red spots on the map but was inable to determine what they were. testing revealed these were not blood spots. he also checked the nose on the back and prosecutors believe d.n.a. from jereem williams was found on the mask. >> the technician testifying now can't tell the jury where the mask came from or under what circumstances it came into possession of the police department. >> the cuffs and neck were also checked for skin cells. that coat was found in the trash can behind his home. >> one of the things intriguing for me is the police department is running around pulling stuff out of garbage cans. i tried to make the point with the technician, your home garbage can has your d.n.a. in it, more likely than not. i'm not sure where the state is going at this time. >> police low kaye indicated a

purse in the trash can. the defense asked about possible cross-contamination. >> as soon as the purse was recovered they should have taken each item out and packaged it so it could be tested. that was not done. it sat in that purse until this gentleman went through it on the 25th which is five days later that he pulled each item and was able to swab them. five days sitting in the same purse touching the same things. was it done wrong? i believe so. it should have been individually packaged so they could preserve that evidence so we could know whose d.n.a. came back on which things. >> baltimore city police are quipping themselves with a second set of eyes. more than 500 people participated in the community partnership event. every police car patroling the city last night was paired up

with a member of the community. earlier in the day, there was a youth challenge obstacle agreement in the community, and residents were invited to tour their local precincts. >> in this morning's commitment 2010 report, the race for state delegate has taken a turn all over who can participate in a community parade. george lettis explains. >> stephanie hodges said she wants to be in the parade. she was told people running for election cannot participate in the parade but only elected officials can.

and a few sprinkles in those clouds out there. we really don't expect any event activity. you can see how there are fewer sprinkles at the end of the loop than the radar loop there. the clouds are essentially from frederick county westward. at the moment, ompe the city, we have clear skies. the moon is out. almost a full moon. it is a beautiful morning. warm this time of year. 73 at b.w.i. marshall. 77 at the inner harbor. 66% the humidity. all these readings are still high. we are still in that rather, warm humid air mass. 95 is the high yesterday at the airport, tying the record high for the date set back in 1970. so we didn't break it, but we tied it, and that's enough. the humidity is way up there, too, yesterday. yesterday's lows were 70 and 72. we were a couple degrees cooler than that. the low temperature today will be tonight, right before

>> the race for states attorney was one of the most hotly contested. jessamy was defeated in a hotly contested race. jessamy spent 15 yars working to engage and educate the community on criminal justice issues while serving as top prosecutor. her efforts to prosecute crime as well as treatment and intervention have impacted our city and state. now bernstein has promised to take responsibility for reducing crime. he vowed to increase conviction rates, target repeat offenders.

those are lofty goals in a city where violent crime has been a problem. he cannot do it alone. a fresh start with a new prosecutor is a chance for all entities of the justice system to join forces, share resources, and work together. as bernstein takes his position, it will make the police, legislators, and all sports services with a unified goal of making baltimore a staver city for all. while bernstein will not officially win the office until september 2, he has unofficially won the job and all the challenges that come with it. inside
